One Word Story
The channel writes a story together, one word per person per turn.
Replace [prefix] with your server's prefix.
Starting a Story
// Syntax
[prefix]onewordstory [max_words]
// Example
;ows
;ows 40
Serenity posts a matchmaking message with a 📖 reaction. Players have 20 seconds to join and at least two are needed.
max_words sets how long the story runs before it wraps up. The default is 60
words; anything below 10 or above 100 is pulled back into that range.
Taking a Turn
Players take turns in order. On your turn Serenity pings you and shows the story so far — you reply with exactly one word, and you have 30 seconds.
Add the next word! Story so far:
> the cat walked into
| You send | What happens |
|---|---|
| A single word | ✅, it's added to the story |
| More than one word | Rejected, your turn is skipped |
| Nothing in 30 seconds | Turn skipped, play moves on |
A word ending in ., ! or ? | The word is added and the story ends |
That last row is the escape hatch: if the story has gone somewhere wonderful and nobody wants to ruin it, end your word with a full stop.
The story also ends on its own when it hits the word limit, or when every player in a row skips their turn. Either way Serenity posts the finished text in one message.
Ending a Story Early
// Syntax
[prefix]onewordstory end
// Example
;ows end
Requires Manage Server. Serenity still posts whatever has been written so far, so nothing is lost.
Limits
One story per server at a time, with a 30 second cooldown between them.
One Word Story keeps no stats — there's no winner, so there's nothing to record.
