Businesses

A rotating market of passive-income businesses you can buy, upgrade, and trade.

Replace [prefix] with your server's prefix.

Businesses are the laboratory's sibling, not a replacement for it — your lab keeps running exactly as it always has. The difference is variety: instead of one slot, you can own several different businesses at once, bought from a market that only offers a handful of them at a time.

LaboratoryA business that earns cash by the hour, with upgrades, specializations and thieves.

The Business Market

// Syntax
[prefix]business
[prefix]business catalog

// Example
;business
;biz catalog

Either one opens the same view: the market doesn't sell all twelve business types at once, it offers 4 — picked for you personally, numbered #1 to #4, reshuffling every 6 hours. What's on offer now won't necessarily still be there this evening, and what's on offer for you isn't what's on offer for anyone else.

A dropdown right under the listing buys whichever one you pick — no typing required. Prefer commands? [prefix]business buy [#] takes the number shown next to it.

🪐 Off-World Mining Colony1,200,000,0002,600,0001

The spread is deliberate — a Firework Stand is a first-hour purchase, an Off-World Mining Colony is something to work toward even at the top of the economy. The max owned column is the other half of that: cheap businesses you can run several of, but the three most expensive ones cap out at one — a Mining Colony is meant to be rare, not something a whale stacks copies of.

Buying In

// Syntax
[prefix]business buy [# or type]

// Example
;business buy 2
;business buy rugpull_farm

Either the catalog number or the type's own name works — the number is whatever business catalog is currently showing you, so it means something different from one player's window to the next. Only works on something the market is currently offering you. Two caps apply at once: you can own at most 5 businesses in total, and no more of any one type than that type's own max owned in the table above — whichever limit you hit first is the one that stops you.

The Loop

  1. Check what's on offer

    [prefix]business catalog shows your current 4 picks and when they rotate next.

  2. Buy in

    Pick one from the dropdown, or [prefix]business buy [#] — each purchase is its own business, tracked by its own id.

  3. Let it run

    Earnings accrue once an hour, up to a 12-hour storage cap per business. Past the cap it sits idle.

  4. Collect

    [prefix]business collect [id] pays out one business. [prefix]business collect-all sweeps every ready business in one go — and so does the economy's own [prefix]collectall, alongside daily, work, the wheel, a heist and the lab.

  5. Upgrade

    [prefix]business upgrade [id] raises that business's level by one, for more income per hour.

// Syntax
[prefix]business status

// Example
;business status

One embed, every business you own: id, level, income per hour, and either what's accrued or when it's next ready.

Businesses per rotation4 of 12
Rotation interval6 hours, seeded per player
Collection interval1 hour
Storage cap12 hours of earnings
Maximum level10
Maximum owned5 total, plus each type's own cap (see the table above)

Selling

There are two very different ways to get rid of a business.

// Syntax
[prefix]business sell [id]

// Example
;business sell 42

business sell refunds 10% of what you put in — the buy cost plus every upgrade — and the business is gone. It's an exit, not an investment.

// Syntax
[prefix]market sell-business [id] [price]

// Example
;market sell-business 42 2000000

Listing it on the marketplace instead means another player pays you a price you set, rather than the game paying a fixed 10%. The business leaves your ownership the moment it's listed and comes back to you if nobody buys before the listing expires.

MarketplacePlayer-to-player listings for gear, items, and businesses — browse, buy, sell, and undercut.
